I'm running a dial-up connection, and I've yet to see this lag everyone complains about. Once I actually thought I was getting it, but it was Firefox updating itself. :|
Well, I'm hoping it was just the network maintenance yesterday, but I ran into some terrible lag when I logged on yesterday. First time I've encountered any since Prophecies was released. Hits pretty randomly...walking, fighting, checking inventory, whatever...screen freezes for ~20 seconds and then resumes. Needless to say, it's turned some, up to that point, very good mission runs into disasters. I can still move the cursor, so when it hits I totally try to spam all my self-healing spells/skills in an attempt to survive...but more often than not, all the mannequins in mid-fight poses are immediately replaced by corpses by the time I regain control.
Slightly, slightly, irritating. Think I'll give it a rest and check back in a week.
Oh, who am I kidding? I'm sure I'll log on tonight.
That would explain the last two GvG's, first on we lost 1 player and they lost 2. While every now and again the whole thing just lagged out for 30 seconds at a time. In the final game tonight before we gave up, at VoD it was 4v4.
TBH they should switch off the servers for an hour and update it properly. Its so irritating when you are winning happily only to find you lose 2-3 players and end up losing. We lost both of our mesmers in one lag burst.
I've also been lagging a lot since their scheduled Jun.03 server maintenance. Just now I tried mapping to Boreas Seabed, and I got stuck at the loading screen; first time that has ever happened to me. Been getting dropped with error code=7 as well. Everything has a constant delay and rubberbanding effect. I can surf web pages just fine at the same speed as always, but the game isn't playable for me atm.

If you are still experiencing abnormal lag after performing all of these troubleshooting steps, please contact our Technical Support department via the "Ask a Question" tab and provide them with the following information:
Are you connecting through a router, hub, or switch? If so, what is the name and model number?
Are you on a home, campus, or business network?
Are you using a firewall application? If so which one?
Do you use any Internet security applications (ISA) such as CYBERsitter, Net Nanny, ZoneAlarm®, McAfee®, or Norton™?
What is the name of your Internet provider?
What type of connection do you have (cable, DSL, dial-up)?
Run HijackThis and attach a logfile of the scan results.
If you contact us regarding a lag issue and do not provide the above information, we will assume that you have not reviewed this article nor have you performed the troubleshooting steps contained within. As a result, our first response will recommend that you complete these initial troubleshooting steps and reply with the requested information if they do not resolve the lag issue.
I do not use a router, hub, or switch
Not on a network but a stand-alone pc
Only use software firewall that's built in Windows XP SP2 Security Center
Use PC-Cillin Antivirus software
Internet provider: COX Hi-speed
Type: Cable connection
Location: San Diego, CA
I've already tried the troubleshooting steps they offered but that didn't help much. I'm going to wait a few more days and if I can't play the game like I used to before their network maintenance I'm going to have to go through their bothersome support site (sigh).
p.s. This site is kinda slow too compared to other forums, what gives? :{

Reason: comment on forum lag
I don't experience rubber band lagg or any thing worse then slow loading; but thats just my computer and its crappy RAM. The worse I ever experience, which has now been fixed, would be the random disconnect while trying to load a map... how annoying that was
My computer is brand new with 1GB rams yet i get the rubber band lagg often now. I go around towns or even outside than it happened. As for lagg, i seen that once in a while where my spell icons just flashes and nothing happened till like a minute or two.
Haven't had that much trouble myself but yesterday we had 5 err 7 in one GvG match. Four of those err 7 where at the exact same time with people being affected in both Norway, the Netherlands and Israel. I fail to see how that could have been anything different then a server related issue on GW's side. Coincidence or not: we were playing a Japanese team. Off the 4 people that didn't crash initially two were lagging the rest of the match (one eventually err 7 as well). It's kinda hard winning a GvG with just one monk and one ele around...
I must admit I was pretty annoyed but then again things like that are to be expected when playing online games.
I've been playing for about a year now and the past few days have been the first taste of lag I've had, and it's bad. Aspenwood has become almost unplayable for me.
I've lagged out as a monk for 30 seconds, when I regained control, I had 3 team mates screaming "WTF MONK, Heal, i rezzed you for a reason !" and a -45 DP
Something needs to be done. ArenaNet, just shutdown the servers like someone said and run a script to auto-update at some time like 1am when hardly anyone is on. Its worth a shot.
Obviously whatever they started trying to fix on 6/3 didn't fix right...
I suspect they planned to get the issue resolved then, but it has turned out to be more complicated than expected. A not uncommon problem in maintaining a server...
I fixed my problems when I found out I had a +1/2 second stall in my connection from time to time. All I had to do was set my RWIN (receive window) correctly with DrTCP to get rid of the stall.
ALSO, before that, I found out that my Linksys router would hang my connection because a few Linksys routers tend to do that. There would be freezes with my internet and I always had to unplug and plug back the router's adapter for the connection to work again. Updating to the current firmware also made it worse because it turned my router into a useless brick when I didn't connect to it wirelessly (was connecting to it with a cat5 cable). From now on, I'm never going to buy another Linksys router.
But yeah, for the past week or so, I've had no problems.
Edit: Nevermind the offer for help.

put it this way. I have had this game since the start day. I have had not one err7 until about a week ago. Since then i have had 13, i have counted them. This is crazy.
This is NOT the problem of anyone here that was playing fine until Sat's update, then suddenly has lag. It is not ISP, drivers, Directx, or anything else. Something was messed up, period.
I play WoW, EQ2, BF 2, on high quality and nothing could be better. This lower resource game has been laggy to the point of unplayable since Saturday's update.
PLease fix this, and stop telling us it is anything other than that. The problem is yours.
Something needs to be done. ArenaNet, just shutdown the servers like someone said and run a script to auto-update at some time like 1am when hardly anyone is on. Its worth a shot.
You do remember this game is global right? 1 AM in the UK means all the Americans are online, 1AM in America, all the Japs/Austrailians etc. There is no 'appropriate time' to simply shutdown the servers when no-ones on.
I haven't seen that many problems with lag tbh. I have seen plenty of err7s though, my last trip in FoW had 3 of them. I have joined a chest run, entered FoW and never started loading though on 2 occasions and simply dropped though in the last week.
Practically every time I play HA/GvG with guildies, one person is complaining of heavy lag and we almost always get an err=7 on one person at some point. in HA we rarely get 5 games in before someone gets err=7, and the last few times i've played the deep, 2-3 people on average have err=7 before we reach the end.
Alliance battles are hit and miss from one night to another, sometimes I get no lag at all, othertimes I have about 2 seconds of lag and massive packetloss. Sometimes it's not me but another guildie who suffers from it but everyone else is normally fine. Strange how the server prioritises it's traffic...
One thing I can certainly say, since Factions came out the lag and disconnects have got worse. Much worse.
I have to agree with many here, been playing GW since the first wpe and never got anything worst than a barely noticeable lag on occasion, since Faction came out the lag started and now as gotten really bad in the last week or two.
GvG as become hard to play just for that, almost every battle we have someone on the team getting some serious lag (the rubber band one) and lets not forget the Err 07 crap that seems to be becoming more and more of a regular thing. Before last week, I couldn't even remember when was the last time we had lost a player during GvG due to that and now it happens once or twice a night, sometimes more than one player at a time.
Just as in other situations, Anet will not come out and directly admit, we are having this problem and we hopped to have it fixed in X amount of time. Just as an auction house was in the works a year ago and coming soon, yet we got a chat filter that blocks WTS....
Obviously, well at least I'd like to think that's why, they encountered problems somewhere regarding that auction house, did they explain it to us, no...did they bother keeping us posted during that waiting time on the development, no.
Same can be said for reconnects, this as been coming soon for a year now, many people have complained about it, asked for a possible timeline. First it was announced for prophecies, then shelved and announced for the Factions release. Yet we are still waiting for it, even though it would very useful at this time and of course we haven't gotten any real explanation to why we are still waiting for it.
The same attitude I'm sure is used towards the lag we are seeing at this time, it won't be Anet's problem until they have found a way of fixing it. Hopefully this won't take a year or more like some other things have, watch for it in one of the future updates.
Fixed something (*coughbugcough*) that caused some random lag and disconnects to happen, although we fixed it, please keep believing the problem wasn't on our end.
